Defiant Origins

Defiant Origins came to me to build the foundation of their streetwear brand around defiance and the line "against all odds." We started by looking at brands and pieces they loved. From there I built a mood board, designed the logo, badges and logo variations for tees, picked the brand colors, and created apparel designs and social graphics for launch.

The challenge

The job grew from a logo and badges into social content and apparel, and finding visuals that truly felt "defiant" took some digging. I landed on Greek statues and fire, blending photo manipulation with vector work for the tees and making static and animated social posts. Once the samples were made, they brought me back to shoot them in the studio.

Brainstorm

Inspiration came from biker gang style, Japanese biker culture, tech wear and streetwear labels like Mastermind Japan and Neighborhood.

I started with a wolf, then a wolf with a skull, and it wasn't working. After stepping away, I tried a skull and a reaper, and one direction clicked. I refined it and the team loved it.
